A Ghanaian national was at the weekend arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport over drug trafficking charges of cocaine valued at more than Sh4 million.
The man aged 34 was enroute to Benin from Sao Paulo on Saturday night when he was detained by officials from the Anti-Narcotics Unit.
He was put in an observation room and has since then emitted at least 48 pellets he had inserted into his rectum. Police said they are yet to know the drugs but they suspect it to be cocaine.
“He is still under observation and we are waiting for results from the Government Chemist to know the nature of the drugs he had,” said airport CID boss Joseph Ngisa.
Ngisa added they are still alert to detect any such kind of crime that may occur at the airport. The airport police have of late been recovering drugs that are on transit arresting suspects. Up to ten cases have been detected there in the past four months.
And police are yet to trace the whereabouts of a Nigerian national who sneaked back to Kenya days after he was too deported.
An officer based at the Namanga border post, Edward Kabiu Njau, was charged in court for unlawfully assisting Eneke Chimenze to enter the country illegally on July 9. Chimeze had been deported together with the controversial Nigerian drug dealer Anthony Chinedu.
He has been on the run since then.
“We still fear he may harm the officers who participated in his deportation or other people in general. Efforts to get him are ongoing,” said Nairobi Area head of CID Nicholas Kamwende.
When the Nigerians were deported on June 3 they caused drama in Lagos prompting the detention of their plane for two weeks.
The Nigerian government came out to declare that it was the one holding the seven Kenyan government officials and five airline crew who had escorted Mr Chinedu and his compatriots.
