Brigadier-General John Bosco Guyiri, Chief Fire Officer, on Friday said the controversial uniforms imported into the country for Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were meant for cadet corps and fire volunteers of the Service.
The camouflage uniform which was imported into the country by Jild Venture had generated a lot of controversy because some of them were torn and stitched; some had foreign name tags while others were faded.
Addressing journalists in Accra, he said when the authorities of GNFS noticed the defects, they recalled the uniforms.
Brigadier-General Guyiri said the Service had set up a three-member committee to investigate all issues relating to the supply of the uniforms.
“As management appreciates the role of the media in bringing to the fore, issues of public interest for corrective measures, it will be very much appreciated if we could wait for the outcome of the committee’s work,” he said.
He said the committee had one week to present its report to the Service, adding that anyone who would be implicated in the report would be dealt with according to the Service Code of Conduct and related conditions of service.
He blamed the media for not cross checking their facts with officials of the GNFS before publishing the story as some of the issues raised in the publications were untrue.
