Crabbe: NPP doesn’t need an “arm-chair” chairman

Former Greater Accra Chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe says he still relishes being Chairman of the party and warns that the NPP must exorcise the “arm-chair”- chairman syndrome from its fold.

Mr. Crabbe, who recently volunteered to bankroll the party’s congress, told XYZ Breakfast Show host, Moro Awudu on Friday that he intends replicating his achievements as a regional Chairman, at the national level if he gets the opportunity.

“In 2010 I run for the Chairmanship and I think that’s where I want to be because from there, you can influence the whole thing; engineer systems; there’s so many things you can really do…that the authority of the chairmanship is required,” Sammy Crabbe noted.

According to him, the chairmanship slot of his party must “not be worn as a badge, awarded to people because of A B C D”.

He bemoaned that the chairmanship slot has “unfortunately” become an “arm chair” position – a situation he says must change”.

“…The Chairmanship is a different ball game altogether and you need people who have shown a track record of performing within the party, and I think I have, and I want an opportunity to implement what I did in Greater Accra across board”.

Mr. Crabbe was beaten by current Chair, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey at the last congress.

He will be battling the former Tourism Minister for the second time, as well as other aspirants such as former Attorney General Nii Ayikoi Otoo; former first Vice Chairman Stephen Ntim and possibly, current first Vice Chairman Fred Oware.
