The Greater Accra Regional office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) on Saturday embarked on a float to commemorate its 10th anniversary.
The exercise aimed at raising awareness on why people should subscribe to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), saw staff and officials of various sub-metro assemblies of the Authority, trekking and on a float through major streets in Accra beginning from Accra Girls Senior High School to the Maamobi-Nima streets and finally converging on the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
Addressing the gathering at the Nkrumah Circle, Mr Rawlance Amartey, Greater Accra Regional Manager of the NHIA, urged the staff to continue to educate the general public to subscribe to the Scheme.
He said over the years the Scheme had stood tall in providing quality and affordable healthcare readily available to Ghanaians.
“We want to use this occasion to reach out to all Ghanaians that, there are a lot of changes in the NHIS so people should use this opportunity to subscribe to the scheme,” Mr Amartey assured.
The Regional Manager said the scheme over the last 10 years had grown from strength to strength and put in place workable measures to overcome its numerous challenges.
He noted that one of the major challenges facing the NHIS was the identification card, which takes longer time to be issued out to clients, but he assured that the biometric registration scheme currently in place would fast track the process.
Mr. Amartey thanked both members of NHIA and the crowd for the success of the float and assured Ghanaians of a more vibrant and effective service delivery in the years ahead.
The NHIS launched its 10th anniversary with the resolve to improve the efficiency of services to the satisfaction of all it clients on the theme: “Towards Universal Coverage: Increasing Enrolment whilst Ensuring Sustainability”.
