Tufuhene of Ahwetieso jailed for fraud

The Tufuhene of Ahwetieso, Nana Kwadwo Owusu, 57, has been sentenced to 2 months imprisonment in hard labour by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for defrauding by false pretence.

He was convicted on his own plea.

Prosecuting Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the Court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo, that the complainant, Blessing Badu, reported to the police that her late husband acquired a piece of land at Ahwetieso in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality from the convict to put up a building.

He said after the death, the complainant in July contacted Nana Owusu to continue with the late husband’s project, but he demanded and collected GHc500 before allowing her to construct the building.

Inspector Amponsah said on October 15, the complainant went to the land to start the project, but she realized that someone had developed a foundation on the land.

He said all efforts made by the complainant to contact the convict for her money proved futile, and she made a report to the police.

He said Nana Owusu was apprehended on a different case and brought to the Tarkwa police station, and was subsequently re-arrested in connection with the fraud.

Inspector Amponsah said after investigations, he was charged with the offense.

During the ruling, the judge ordered Nana Owusu to refund the complainant’s money to her after serving the sentence.
