An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday discharged Comfort Anomoa, a trader, accused of causing harm to the breast of one Janet Tetteh; a colleague.
Chief Inspector Jubiok Michaels told the court that there was an un-tarred road adjacent to the accused person’s house, which the complainant uses on her way to her house.
He said that prior to the incident; the complainants’ husband removed a speed ramp sign post from the roadside and placed it against the wall of the accused to enable him to construct the said road properly for easy access.
He said this did not go down well with Comfort’s husband, who took the said sign post from the wall and blocked the road with it.
The prosecution said on August 18, 2013, around 1900 hours, when the complainant approached comfort’s husband about his action, comfort became offended and picked a quarrel with her.
“At the heat of the exchanges, the accused person poured water she had earlier used to wash her cloths on the face of the complainant,” he added.
He said before Janet (complainant) could react, Comfort (the accused person) held her hair-do, and bit her breast, wounding her in the process.
“The complainant shouted for help and was saved by people around, but she sustained some injuries on the breast and bled profusely,” he said.
A complaint was lodged to the police and the accused person was apprehended.
However, the complainant, Janet Tetteh, through her lawyer, pleaded with the court to withdraw the case, indicating that they would settle the case out of court. The court presided over by Mrs Ellen Amoah, was unhappy with the turn of events, noting that, it was “Barbaric”.
The judge said while the world is fighting against violence against women, it was rather unfortunate that women were themselves causing harm to each other.
