PURC announces 78.9% increment in electricity tariffs

After months of speculation, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has finally announced a 78.9 per cent upward adjustment in electricity and 52 per cent increment in water tariffs.

The commission in announcing the new tariffs said it took into consideration a number of factors, including irregular service provision.

The commission is, however, hopeful that the increment will lead to regular or uninterrupted services to consumers.

The increment takes effect on October 1.
