Chiefs of late Prof Mills’ hometown must be called to order – Minister

The Central Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong says the Ekumfi Traditional council must, as a matter of urgency, call the chiefs of Otuam, home of the late president John Evans Atta Mills, to order.

This follows the recent disturbances by the chiefs and people of Otuam who were protesting delays in the completion of road projects in the area.

The youth, in an action sanctioned by the chiefs, blocked the road leading to the town and battled police personnel detailed there to restore calm when they tried to remove the roadblocks.

The angry youth argued that the home region of the late former president Mills deserved better in terms of development. They, therefore, demanded immediate action by government to uplift the status of the village.

But speaking at Ekumfi-Akra in the Ekumfi District, Mr. Sarpong described the action of the chiefs as disgusting insisting, all the nation’s resources cannot be used to develop Otuam alone simply because the late former president hailed from there.

He said the demands of the chiefs and people of Otuam were completely misplaced because the late president Atta Mills was President of the Republic of Ghana and not the small town of Otuam.

Nevertheless, the Minister assured that government was doing everything possible, to give Otuam its share of development.
