Minority Members in Parliament have threatened to advise themselves if government fails to release their quarterly Highly Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) Funds, which according to them, have been frozen from January.
The minority parliamentarians are crying foul because it (frozen account) is making it impossible for them to access the funds for projects in their constituencies.
It is, however, not clear why government ordered for their account to be frozen.
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday’s edition of ‘Kokrokoo’ with Kwami Sefa-Kayi, Hon. Edward Ennin, MP for Obuasi constituency said if nothing is done to release the funds after sitting today, they will boycott government business.
“This is depriving the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and the GETFund (Ghana Education Trust Fund) administration of funds. Apart from that, government’s statutory payments, which also includes our share of the DCAF, is in arrears…
If nothing is done after sitting today, we will advise ourselves…government don’t have that right to freeze our money without our authorization.” he indicated.
