Prisoners granted amnesty released

The Ghana Prisons Service has finally released all 870 prisoners granted presidential pardon on July 1 to mark Republic Day.

Authorities of the Prisons Service, who confirmed this to Joy News, explained that the release had delayed because the service had to follow some bureaucratic processes.

DSP Vitalex Aryee, acting Public Relations officer of the Prisons Service said “we deal with processes and procedures so as a result, we had to consult our stakeholders, including the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), the medical directorate with regards to those granted amnesty – the [elderly], the sick, the nursing mothers.”

He said the process is “just complete and we have all the inmates released…”
