Floods submerge villages, displace hundreds in Bunkpurugu

Hundreds of residents in parts of the Bunkpurugu Yunyoo District in the Northern region have been displaced after two days of heavy downpour.

Eleven out of twenty-one circuits in the district have been totally submerged in flood waters, leaving hundreds of people homeless.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the District has started registering victims to provide them with the necessary relief items.

The District Coordinator of NADMO, Wuni Sugri Yussifu, told XYZ News, his outfit is responding swiftly to avoid any outbreak of diseases.

“We are now doing the registration, and actually everything has been destroyed,” Sugri Yussifu said.

He said the rains have been pouring since Friday, thus the widespread disaster.
