NPP will come back stronger in 2016 – Karbo

Former National Youth Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Karbo, says the party will reorganize and come back stronger for the ‘battle’ in 2016.

He said that the party leadership is going back to the drawing board to put their strategies right in order to ensure they are voted back into power at the next polls.

Karbo’s comment comes after the Supreme Court dismissed a presidential election petition initiated by the NPP flagbearer and two others challenging the legitimacy of President John Mahama.

By a majority decision, the justices of the Supreme Court on Thursday August 29, 2013 ruled that he [Mahama] was validly elected in the 2012 elections.

Immediately after the ruling, the petitioners, led by the party’s flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, accepted the judgement and said he will not seek a review.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Thursday, Anthony Karbo said Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP have demonstrated to the entire world that indeed they believe in democracy.

He noted that eight months of litigation cannot be a waste of time as some would suggest, because it would changed the electoral process.

“We are looking forward to some radical reforms in the electoral process because elections in Ghana will never be the same again,” he added.

The NPP youth activist stated that ruling on the election petition is not victory for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) or a defeat for the NPP, but rather victory for Ghana.

Anthony Karbo said the NPP as a government in waiting will embark on reforms to strength the party structures ahead of the 2016 general elections.

He observed that the party will leave no stone unturned in uniting its rank and file for a formidable team during the next polls.

“We have three more years to go, I believe after reorganization in the party we will come back stronger and better as a party and a government in waiting”.

Anthony Karbo called on NPP members to put the court case behind them and work assiduously for the party to come back to power.
