Armed robbers attack orphanage, female orphans defiled

The police are hunting down four suspected armed robbers who attacked the Lighthouse Orphanage at Aburi in the Eastern Region around midnight, Monday.

Narrating the incident to Joy News, one Patricia the administrator of the orphanage said, “Around 12:30, I just saw some people open my door, and I was in bed so when the door was opened, I got startled and it was dark.

There were about four of them, they were not masked, but they were carrying guns. They wanted to put the light on and immediately I began to scream”.

According to her, they issued threats and rummaged the place taking away some money, phones, computers, decoders and other valuable items.

She also confirmed that the armed robbers defiled some of the female orphans. She would not mention how many of the girls were sexually assaulted.

Joy News spoke with the District Police Commander of the Aburi Mampong area, DSP Agyanim Boateng who assured that the robbers will be caught soon because of the tracking devices they took away during their operation.

The Lighthouse Orphanage was established six years ago and is funded by the Lighthouse Chapel International. Currently, the orphanage houses twenty children between ages 4 and 16.
