COBAANA Gives To Sunyani Regional Hospital

CONFERENCE OF Brong Ahafo Associations of North America (COBAANA), an umbrella organisation of the various groups of Brong-Ahafo indigenes domiciled in the USA, has donated eight functional beds worth about $90,000 to the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital in Sunyani.

The modern patient trolleys meant for transporting patients from the theatre to the wards are expected to boost quality health delivery in the ultra-modern 300-bed capacity major referral hospital in the region. At a short ceremony to present the beds to the management of the hospital last Friday, representatives of COBAANA, Darko Poku and Margaret Amponsah, explained that the umbrella organisation of the various Brong Ahafo associations in the US was established four years ago with the main objective of helping to advance the development of the region.

Mr Darko Poku said with COBAANA, there were a lot more that Brong Ahafo residents in the US could do for the region and Ghana as a whole. He indicated that the group had already donated a number of bed sheets to the same hospital, pointing out that they again have plans to help to provide financial support and equipment for the hospital’s blood bank. “We are committed to quality healthcare in Brong Ahafo and we are willing to do more to promote quality healthcare in the hospital,” he added.

Receiving the items, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Jacob Abebrese, acknowledged COBAANA’s kind gesture and commended them on behalf of the Regional Coordinating Council, Health Directorate and the hospital. The Medical Director indicated that the Regional Hospital was the citadel of medical services in the region having been equipped with ultra-modern equipment with about 1,000 staff including 200 nurses, 70 doctors and 15 specialists.

He assured the donors that the beds would be put to good use to serve their intended purposes, while underscoring the need for indigenes of the region to come together to support the development of the region.
