Lion scare at Adaklu-Wumenu

The chiefs and people of Adaklu-Wumenu are living in constant fear following claims by some Fulani herdsmen that they spotted a lion in the outskirt of the community.

Togbe Adzimah II, Chief of the farming community, who spoke on US FM, a local radio station in Ho, on Friday said the news had led to the boycott of economic activities for the fear of the unknown.

He said the Fulani herdsmen earlier in the week claimed they saw a lion, which attempted to prey on an animal and failed.

Togbe Adzimah said two days later, the herdsmen came back to him claiming they saw the lion again at a distance, this time, trying to prey on a cow.

He said following the second report, some youth were dispatched to the bush to look for the animal, but could not find it.

Togbe Adzimah, therefore, called on officials of the Wildlife Department to help resolve the situation.

Meanwhile, Raphael Kwaku, a Security Officer at Dave Junction, near Ho, who walked to the radio station, said a wild animal last Sunday devoured one of his goats leaving the goat’s head and legs with no spill of blood.

Mr Alex Adjei, Park Manager of the Kalakpa Game Reserve at Abutia- Kloe near Adaklu, said though they had not sighted any lion in the reserve, it was possible for one to live in the Adaklu grassland.

He advised people to keep their animals in enclosed space while they (officials) assessed the situation.

In 2009, Togbe Dzamesi Akogo II of Adaklu Workpe was attacked by a wild animal believed to be a lion in a bush and had his left arm devoured by the lion.
