Counterfeiting of drugs alarming – WHO

The World Health Organisation (WHO) says counterfeiting of drugs is assuming alarming proportion with pharmaceutical companies bearing the brunt of it.

Estimates from the WHO show counterfeit drugs cost pharmaceutical companies 75 billion dollars annually in lost revenue and brand degradation.

Africa is believed to be the market base for 30 percent of counterfeit drugs, and this has dire consequences on human capital and the economy.
