Karbo: Big fishes like Sir John cannot be subjected to stringent legal scrutiny

It is said that the law is no respecter of persons, but Anthony Karbo thinks otherwise. According to him, there are people in Ghana who cannot be ‘touched’ by virtue of the positions they occupy in society.

Speaking as a panelist on Adom Fm’s morning show, ‘Dwaso Nsem, the former National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) sought to suggest that people he describes as ‘big fishes’ cannot be subjected to stringent legal scrutiny like any ordinary citizen because of the potential riot that might accompany such a move.

Anthony Karbo made these comments in reaction to a claim by Steven Atubiga, a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team that he “would sue” if Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie also known as Sir John, the General Secretary of the NPP, is not sentenced to imprisonment if found guilty of contempt charges leveled against him by the apex court of the land.

Mr. Atubiga, who was sentenced to three days imprisonment for making contemptuous statements with regards to the ongoing contestation of the 2012 presidential elections, did not mention who he would sue but demanded that the NPP scribe is not left off the hook by the judges.

But Anthony Karbo holds a contrary view saying the NDC communicator’s case was a different one, and also, he (Steven Atubiga) is a “small fish”.

“As for you, you are a small fish. We are talking about a big fish like Sir John, the General Secretary of our party…there are big fishes in this country don’t you know? The General Secretary of the NDC is a big fish and Atubiga is a small fish,” Karbo asserted.
