A man who couldn’t win his home region cannot be prez – Solomon Nkansah

The Deputy Propaganda Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Solomon Nkansah, has stated that it is impossible for the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be president of Ghana.

According to him, no presidential candidate in Ghana’s history has used just two regions to win an election and Nana Akufo-Addo cannot set a precedent.

Solomon Nkansah was commenting on the NPP’s chances in the ongoing presidential election petition before the Supreme Court.

The petitioners led by Nana Akufo-Addo are challenging the legitimacy of President John Mahama whom they claim was the beneficiary of an election riddled with irregularities.

After months of ‘legal battle’ by counsel of both the petitioners and respondents, the Supreme Court is likely to give its final ruling at the end of August.

But even before the court gives its verdict, Solomon Nkansah on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Friday, maintained that the petitioners have no case.

He said the petitioners are confused because according to him, the allegations they made in the court of public opinion are different from what they pleaded in the court of law.

The NDC Deputy Propaganda Secretary contended that Akufo-Addo who is challenging the 2012 election could not win majority votes from his own home region, the Eastern region.

He added Nana Akufo-Addo as leader of the NPP has been a “headache” for the party, but for fear of being vilified, the concerned members are tight-lipped.

The NDC man stated emphatically that the NDC won eight regions and got more than 40 percent in the Eastern region in what he describes as the most free and fair election conducted in the country.

Solomon Nkansah said after eight months of unproductivity, time wasting and suspense, if the Supreme Court rules in favour of the NDC “we will jubilate”.
