We will jubilate if we win – Anita De Sosoo

The outspoken National Women’s Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anita De Soso, has stated emphatically that members and sympathizers of NDC “will jubilate if they win the presidential election petition before the Supreme Court.”

Many institutions including the National Peace Council (NPC), the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) have cautioned eventual victors in the ongoing presidential election petition, not to jubilate after the verdict.

The National Organizer of NDC, Yaw Boateng Gyan, had also cautioned supporters against indulging in excessive euphoria in case the respondents won the case; because “jubilation could be considered as a form of ridiculing, which can incite mayhem.”

Some men of God like Bishop Charles Agyin Asare have also advised against jubilation because it had the tendency of being divisive and inciting.

But speaking on Adom TV’s Pampaso show, Anita De Soso said no one can stop the NDC member from jubilating if they won the court case.

She said: “We will jubilate if we win – the NPP cannot stop us – we will jubilate – if they win they should also jubilate – this is our country and no one can prevent us from expressing our joy when we win.”

De Soso argued that the very institutions suggesting that no one should jubilate if they won, watched when the NPP jubilated over the NDC when they won the previous elections.

She said the NDC is not afraid of the NPP, adding “they [NPP] came to power through the pen, but we have a history of leading a revolution, so we are not afraid of them – we are only calm because we want peace for this country.”

De Soso is confident the victor’s jubilation would not affect the peace the country is enjoying, adding that the NDC leadership had cautioned its members against any misbehavior, and she believes NPP had done same.

She said the police had also cautioned both parties and warned that no inciting behavior would be tolerated.

Meanwhile, NPP Constituency Organiser for Abokobi-Madina, Alhaji Aminu Abu said NPP is also preparing to jubilate if they won the court case.

But MP for Bia East, Richard Acheampong, is however urging the two political parties to caution their supporters to be watchful of how they jubilate.
