Mahama is a sensible man – Okoh

Mrs. Theodosia Okoh, designer of the country’s flag, has expressed gratitude to President John Mahama for reversing the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s(AMA) decision to remove her name from the national hockey pitch and replace it with that of late president John Evans Atta Mills.

President Mahama in a speech at the national thanksgiving service to climax the one year commemoration of the death of former president held at the Robert Mensah Sports Stadium in Cape Coast openly rendered an unqualified apology to Mrs. Okoh.

He described the decision by the AMA as a ‘’most sad mistake’’.

The president’s apology follows an earlier direction from the presidency for the chief executive officer of the AMA, Dr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije to reverse the decision.

President Mahama said, ‘’prof. Atta Mills himself in life would not have accepted it.’’

‘’ Let me express our regret to our grandmother Mrs. Theodosia Okoh of any emotional trauma she might have suffered as a result of the renaming of the national hockey pitch. The pitch shall continue to be called the Theodosia Okoh national hockey stadium,’’ the president stated.

In an interview with Accra based Montie fm on Monday, Mrs. Okoh described president Mahama’s decision as a very sensible one.

‘’He is very sensible for reversing the AMA’s decision. I thank him very much for this,’’ she said.
