Chairman of the National Peace Council, Professor Emmanuel Asante has challenged the media to play a critical role in ensuring peace in the country after the Supreme Court delivers its verdict in the election petition case.
According to him, the country will stand or fall depending on the stance of the media after the verdict is delivered.
Speaking at a media sensitization event organized by the media Foundation for West Africa on Monday, Reverend Asante said the issue of Media ownership and their interest in the content of media products must not be overlooked by the society.
“The influence of especially the electronic media in the shaping of public opinion cannot be underestimated,” Prof. Asante said.
He added: “raises a whole lot of ethical issues for those who control them in respect of Ghana’s political process”.
For his part, the Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa, Professor Kwame Karikari urged the media to be mindful of its responsibilities as the Supreme Court prepares to deliver its verdict in the election petition case.
