Mahama should continue Mills’ vision – Prof. Ahwoi

Professor Kwamena Ahwoi, a lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and one of the close aides to the late Ghana’s President, John Evans Atta Mills, has urged President John Dramani Mahama, as part of continuity of the “Change Agenda”, to continue with visions of the late Professor in certain aspects.

An example, he gives, was that Professor Mills had planned that, in his second term, Ghana should be able to bid for the Under-17 or the Under-20 Football World Cup tournaments or the African Women’s Football tournament so that the country would have better use of nice stadiums we have in the country.

In the paragraph of Professor Ahwoi‘s 20-paged statement, he said: “He acknowledged former President J. A. Kufuor’s vision in building the Tamale and Essipong (Takoradi) Sports Stadia, but regretted their apparent under-utilisation.

He had planned, in his second-term, to get the Ministry of Youth and Sports to bid for Ghana to stage either the Under-17 or the Under-20 Football World Cup tournament or the African Women’s Football tournament, so that, the country would have better use of the investments in those stadia.

It would also be Ghana’s way of demonstrating her commitment to continental unity and world citizenship through sports. This is a vision that should still be a challenge to his successor, President John Dramani Mahama, as part of the “CONTINUITY IN CHANGE” agenda; and any other presidents who may come after him, when he leaves office in 2021.”
