Clergyman urges Ghanaians to accept Supreme Court ruling

Right Reverend Francis Amenu, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P.) Church, on Wednesday, asked the citizenry to accept the ruling that the Supreme Court would give on the 2012 election petition as “God’s verdict for Ghana.”

He said that would be the only way to honour the memory of the late President John Evans Atta Mills as a “peace lover”.

Rt. Rev. Amenu said this in a sermon at a memorial service in Ho to mark the first anniversary of the passing on of the late President Mills.

He described the late President Mills as a “father figure, a servant-leader and a totality of the fruit of the spirit-love, joy, peace, faithfulness and gentleness.”

Rt. Rev. Amenu said late President Mills’ show of self-discipline was exceptional and a legacy that the citizenry must uphold.

He said it was, therefore, important for everyone to “behave maturely” irrespective of the verdict, and charged followers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to have self-control.

Rt. Rev. Amenu urged the media and social commentators to be circumspect in commenting on the verdict and not to inflame passions.

Prayers were said for the nation and the family of the late President.

In attendance were Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Volta Regional Minister and Mr Francis Ganyaglo, his deputy.
