Former Attorney General Betty Mould-Iddrisu says late President John Mills was greatly pained by the incessant “vilification” he suffered from critics within his party as well as those in opposition.
Mrs. Mould-Iddrisu told XYZ Breakfast Show on Wednesday July 24, 2013 that the late president often complained bitterly about the pain caused him by the vilification of his person.
She said there were “several several occasions” that she sat with President Mills to talk through “these vilifications trying to rest [and] ease the pain in his soul [and] in his heart”.
“You’d walk into his office in the morning when there were particularly nasty things, vicious things that have been said both by the opposition and by our own people about him,” the former education minister bewailed.
She recalled that Prof Mills always wore a face of pain and grief which were caused by the numerous “nasty” and “vicious” comments that confronted him every day.
Paying tribute to Prof. Mills as the country marks the first year anniversary of his passing, Mrs. Mould-Iddrisu said the late president showed tremendous amount of restraint and self-control throughout his presidency.
According to her, President Mills always promised to “let it go” and “not respond” but still felt “pained” by the “vilification”.
