Yaw Gyan cautions against excessive jubilation

National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan, has cautioned supporters against indulging in excessive euphoria after the nine-member justices of the Supreme Court gives its ruling on the election petition case.

The NDC National Organiser believes over jubilation can be considered as a form of ridiculing, which can incite mayhem.

Speaking to Okay FM in an interview, the NDC Youth Organizer also advised political analysts and discussants to be mindful of their utterances prior to the declaration of the court’s verdict.

“Whiles we await the final verdict to be announced, I will plead with my colleagues to be careful when commenting on the case on various political platforms, so no one will be cited for contempt.

“…we (Ghanaians) should pray for togetherness in this period. After the verdict, both the winners and the losers should congratulate each other. Most importantly, over jubilation should be avoided to prevent anything untoward from happening…. We should all be one as a nation,” he said.

Asked if he believes the Supreme Court might order for a re-run of the election, Yaw Boateng Gyan said, “I don’t think such a verdict will be pronounced after hearing all the evidences adduced by the petitioners. But if the Judges say so, we must accept it and prepare for re-run if we want to strengthen the constitution, the institutions of state and the Supreme Court.”
