GYEEDA presents kits to hairdressers

The Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) at the weekend presented start-up kits to 35 hairdressers in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region.

The hairdressers, who were trained under the apprenticeship training programme organised by the Asongtaba Cottage Industry, each received a standing dryer, rollers, set of combs, trolleys, basin and towels.

In addition, the graduates would be assisted by GYEEDA through the Asongtaba Cottage Industry to establish their hairdressing saloons and businesses.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony at the Nabdam District, the District Chief Executive for the area, Mrs Vivian Anafo, commended the beneficiaries for going through the training programme adding that government recognizes the role hairdressers and beauticians associations play in the socio-economic development of the country.

She said it was against this background that government through its Better Ghana Agenda under GYEEDA had rolled out a number of apprenticeship training modules to help the youth who formed the bulk of the population to establish their own businesses.

“It is our hope and wish that the beneficiaries will put these items into good use as envisaged by the NDC Government under the Better Ghana Agenda,” the DCE said.

She said the Assembly as a development agent would continue to liaise with other developmental partners including NGOs to create more job avenues for people in the area, particularly the teaming youth.

“As you have passed and received these start-up kits, you must also endeavour to train others and also employ others,“ she told them.

The Deputy Coordinator of GYEEDA in charge of Nabdam District, Tohugto Douglas Yenbagrah, said her outfit had so far trained about 95 per cent of beneficiaries in various modules who were brought down from the urban centres where they were doing menial jobs.

She said GYEEDA would continue to train more of the youth in the various modules and assist them to establish themselves.
