Prisons Service: Noisy groups at Ken Kuranchie’s release will be arrested

In less than 24 hours, Editor of the Searchlight newspaper, Kenneth Agyei Kuranchie, who was incarcerated last week, will regain his freedom. He is bound to be released from jail on Thursday.

The Searchlight newspaper Editor was found guilty of criminal contempt by the Supreme Court and sentenced to ten days in prison for publishing an editorial deemed to be contemptuous of the Court.

As tomorrow marks his liberation day, Prison Officials envisage some sympathizers of Ken Kuranchie will want to make the occasion a memorable one by coming in their numbers to meet him at the prison gates. But mechanisms have been put in place to nullify the impending funfair.

Speaking on Okay FM, the deputy PRO of the Ghana Prisons Service, Francis Agyirey-Kwakye hinted that although Mr. Kuranchie was not stationed at one prison cell since his jail time commenced, he would be set free from the Nsawam Prisons.

But he forewarned that officials wouldn’t countenance any group that comes with merry-making to disturb the serenity of the place.

“…in other to avoid any form of trouble, it will be appropriate for only the wife and a few family members of Mr. Kuranchie to welcome their ‘hero’ back home,” he advised.

Mr. Agyirey-Kwakye explained that the Nsawam Prisons is a security installation that was created to bay civilians from disturbing private works. He stated that the laws of the land permit them to swoop any person or group that display boisterous acts at the forecourt of the prison.
