Students of colleges of education good as others

Mr Gabriel J. K. Dzimale, Principal of the Akatsi College of Education, has said students in colleges of education are as good as those of other tertiary institutions.

He said any notion that students enter colleges of education as a last resort after failing to gain admission to other tertiary institutions is, therefore, a misconception.

Mr Dzimale said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the launch of the 22nd anniversary and first speech day of the Dabala Senior High Technical School (DASTEC) at the weekend.

He said the performance of graduates of colleges of education in the job market, disproves this perception.

Mr Dzimale said entry requirements into the colleges of education are the same as those of the universities, but it is only recently that the colleges were given tertiary status.

Mr Dzimale counseled DASTEC students to remain disciplined, diligent and committed to their academic work to avoid falling by the way.

Wishing the school a successful anniversary on July 13, this year, he said DASTEC was among dozens of technical/vocational bias schools established in 1991 across the country.

Mr Dzimale said DASTEC has come of age and urged all stakeholders not to withdraw support for the school.

Mr Simon Addae-Conutsey, DASTEC Headmaster, said the anniversary is an opportunity for the school to put a searchlight on its activities and refocus, and with stakeholder support, to become a first class one.
