I don’t see why he has been called – Gabby defends Ken Kuranchie

Leading Member of New Patriotic Party, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko says he does not see why Managing Editor of Daily Searchlight newspaper has been cited for possible contempt by the Judges hearing the election petition at the Supreme Court.

The Presiding Judge, Justice William Atuguba has ordered three men to appear before the bench on Tuesday 2nd July 2013.

They are Stephen Atubiga and Kwaku Boahen, both of the governing National Democratic Congress and Kenneth Agyei Kuranchie, Managing Editor of the Daily Searchlight newspaper.

Ken Kuranchie is to answer to a front page comment published on the Thursday June 27, 2013 edition of his newspaper.

Gabby, also the Executive Director of the Danquah Institute says he has read the comment but finds nothing wrong with the write-up.

He spoke on Joy Fm’s Newsfile.

The NPP man says, he will be surprised if the court, after reading the comments would find anything wrong with it.

“There is absolutely nothing wrong,” he charged.

He explained Ken Kuranchie wrote about possible selectivity of the court in dealing with contemptuous statements made by members of the public.

“Ken Kuranchie gave examples of supposed selectivity to draw the court’s attention,” he defended.

Atubiga – another wanted man – “was more culpable of contempt,” he suggested.

He jeered that Atubiga may have gotten “some extra powers” from the closeness of his name to that of the presiding judge – Atuguba.
