‘I’d rather go to jail than reveal source of rlg letter’

Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako Jr., says he would rather go to jail than reveal the source of a copy of a letter in his possession, through which Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has written to local IT firm, rlg, seeking sponsorship.

“I’d rather go to jail than disclose my source,” Kweku Baako told XYZ Breakfast show host Moro Awudu Friday.

He says he has more evidence that suggests various Committees in Parliament have over the past two decades been soliciting sponsorship from private companies in bankrolling their activities.

The Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adzaho, has announced a probe into Mr. Baako’s earlier claim regarding the Public Accounts Committee and rlg.

A former member of the Committee, Alfred Abayateye, has accused rlg of leaking the letter in question to Kweku Baako.

Parliament may refer the matter to the Privileges Committee for investigations which could culminate in the invitation of Kweku Baako before the Committee.

Mr. Baako says he would honour any such invitation, but would stand his grounds against revealing his source.

“…I will honour any invitation by Parliament or any of its Committees out of respect for that institution; I admire it and so I’ll go and coorporate, but bottom-line, they won’t get a disclosure of source. That will never ever happen,” he stressed.
