NADMO to be scrapped

Cabinet is considering a bill to establish a National Disaster Management Service to replace the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

Critical issues are the restructuring of NADMO and further strengthening disaster management.

The new agency will be more responsive and proactive to disaster, according to government.

There will also be the consideration of a sustainable financing regime for the National Disaster Management Service.

This comes on the heels of calls from Kofi Portuphy, NADMO Coordinator, that the organisation lacks fund to respond effectively to disasters in the country.
