Fire scare at Ho Circuit Court

A fire scare at the Circuit Court Registry at Ho last Tuesday morning caused a huge scare among litigants, workers and the police.

Secretaries and other staff at the Registry shouted for help as they crammed the entrance to the place, falling over each other in a bid to escape the fire as there was no fire extinguisher available.

Some secretaries who came out of the Registry with the help of their counterparts kept coughing after having inhaled smoke from a burning florescent lamp.

A source at the Court told the Ghana News Agency that, at about 0900 hours, some workers at the Registry started smelling smoke in their offices but thought it was the cleaner who was burning garbage outside.

The source said after sometime, the Registry was filled with smoke prompting shouts for help.

Few minutes later, the GNA saw a man who took a piece of wood and turned off the main switch. Wires in one of the fluorescent lamps were later found to be burnt.

Work at the complex was halted for close to an hour as scores of workers discussed the incident. Authorities at the Court, however, declined to comment on the issue.
