Court refuses bail for suspected arsonists

A Circuit Court in Accra has denied bail to two persons suspected to be behind recent market fires in the country.

The two suspects were arrested by the police in Accra, after preliminary investigations found them responsible for some of the fires that consumed major markets in Accra and Kumasi.

They are to reappear in court on July 10, 2013.

Lawyer for the suspects Carl Adongo earlier this week protested the continuous detention of his clients by the Accra Regional Police CID and threatened to proceed to the High Court and seek their release.

State Prosecutors pleaded with the court to grant them more time to conclude investigations into the matter, a plea granted by the court.

The suspects are to be kept on remand and will reappear on July 10.
