Parents urged to monitor activities of wards

Paul Asuah Duodu, a teacher and citizen of Tom in the Nkoranza North District, has urged parents in the community to monitor the activities of their children and prevent them from engaging in social vices.

He said there was the need for parents to visit the schools of their wards regularly to interact with the teachers to know their performance.

Mr Duodu said it was unfortunate some of the boys visited shrines during school hours to assist fetish priests in their activities.

He said children have been seen drumming, preparing animals for slaughter and collecting eggs at shrines at the expense of their education.

He said child neglect and lack of parental support were major problems facing education in the community as many parents tend to shirk from their responsibilities.

Mr Duodu said these negative attitudes of parents and children had led to the low standard of education in the community.

He urged the School Management Committee and executives of the Parent-Teacher-Association in the community to ensure that the children remained in school and thereby improve the literacy standards in the area.
