Report criminal attacks to police first – Police Commander

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has appealed to victims of criminal attacks to report such cases to the police first, instead of resorting to the media.

It said the attitude of some robbery victims rushing to the media to report cases often affects the operations and investigations of the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Simon Afeku, Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, who made the appeal, said it was important for the general public to be very conversant with the police emergency numbers, to enable them to call for prompt action in times of criminal activities in their areas.

These were contained in a statement issued in Kumasi on Friday in reaction to the alleged armed robbery case at Atonsu-Kuwait New Site, on Friday.

A section of the media in Kumasi reported that several households were attacked by criminals and took away millions of Ghana cedis and mobile phones.

However, Mr Afeku said police investigations indicated that an amount of GHc1,950.00 and nine mobile phones were taken from the victims during the attacks.

He said the police suspects that some area guys took advantage of the poor lighting system in the area to perpetrate that nefarious activities.

DCOP Afeku said no arrests have been made, but the police were making frantic efforts to bring the culprits to book and called on the residents to volunteer information to aid the police in their investigations.
