Mampong NDC chair calls for calm

Mohammed Kamel, Chairman of National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Asante Mampong Constituency, has appealed to party supporters and opinion leaders to remain calm while the President nominates new Municipal Chief Executive for the area.

He said there was no need for supporters and opinion leaders to stampede the nomination process, since President John Dramani Mahama was would eventually nominate a competent person to manage the Municipality.

The Chairman made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency recently. He said some opinion leaders had been meeting to influence the nomination process from the regional level, saying that nearly sparked off demonstration in the area.

Mr Kamel said nobody should do anything to compromise the peace and the smooth running of social and economic activities in the area, and called on the security agencies to deal with any person found disturbing the prevailing peace.

While appealing for the appointment of someone with high educational qualification and credentials to match with the demands of the new local government concept, the Chairman said the person must also be young and energetic as well as command unquestionable support at the grassroots.
