NGO To Establish 10-Acre Maize Farm

Agona Swedru (C/R), Aug 27, – The Agricultural and Rural Development Association ( ARA), a non-governmental organization in collaboration with its German counterpart, Kolping Werk, is to establish a 10 acre maize and vegetable farm at Agona Swedru this year. Mr Kingsley Addy, executive Director of the organization said this when he led 20 members of the association to harvest maize and vegetables form a six acre farm of the Swedru secondary school at the weekend. He said the establishment of the farm will encourage unemployed youth to go into farming and help curb the rural-urban drift. The organization and its German counterpart have instituted an international youth exchange camp which will engage students on holidays in profitable income generating ventures . Members of the organization last year planted more than 1000 tree seedlings on the compound of the Swedru Secondary School and along the Bawjiase-Swedru trunk road, he said. Mr Addy said a factory is to be established at Agona Swedru soon to produce solar energy cookers to reduce pressure on fuel wood .
