The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) in collaboration with a South African private investor is developing a modern Light Industrial Enclave for artisans in Takoradi to befit an oil city.
Announcing this at a meeting with the artisans in Takoradi on Tuesday, Mr Peter Kow Obosu, a contractor with the Peekob Company Limited, said the 58 acre-enclave at Kansaworado, a suburb of Takoradi, would be ready for operation by July 15 next month.
He said the enclave would have infrastructural amenities such as water, electricity, place of convenience, roads and sites for training school among other facilities.
Mr Obosu said a South African company, the Western Development Consortium Limited (WDCL) with some Ghanaian partners had purchased the 22 acre-land at Tanokrom, currently used by the artisans, to develop a shopping mall and other ventures.
Mr Mamoud Ali, Presiding Member for STMA, impressed on the artisans to re-locate to the proposed new settlement since it was necessary to boost their businesses.
All the speakers, including the local and national executives of the artisans association, asked the artisans to agree to move to their new location.
While some of the artisans protested against their relocation, others had agreed to move on condition that all the necessary facilities should be provided to enhance their work at the new location.
