Mankessim Kingmakers Reject Omanhene

Accra, Aug. 27, –The kingmakers of Mankessim have stated that the nomination and installation of Nana Amanfo Edu the sixth as Omanhene of the traditional area, was without their knowledge and consent. They therefore appealed to the government to intervene to help bring peace and unity to the town. At a press briefing in Accra which was attended by five of the eight kingmakers, their spokesman, Nana Kwaa Annan the eighth, Nkyidomhene, alleged that certain sub-chiefs of the traditional council together with family members of the said Omanhene nominated him and went ahead to install him. Nana Annan explained that this purported nomination and installation of the said Omanhene are against the customary and traditional practices of the Mankessim traditional area. He affirmed that the black stool which is the symbol of the Omanhene’s authority is still with the kingmakers. The Nkyidomhene said the “Omanhene” has not been vetted by the kingmakers to ascertain his suitability to the stool. The other kingmakers at the press briefing were Nana Kodjo Antwi, Twafo regent, Nana Kwame Akyen the second, Adontenhene, Nana Bentsiefi the eighth, Ankobeahene and Nana Begyina, Benkum regent.
