Ultra-modern court building for Half Assini

Work has begun on a GHc159,754.78 ultra-modern court building at Half Assini by the Jomoro District Assembly.

Construction work is at the foundation level.

Mr. Anthony Armah Benle, Managing Director of SAMDEC Company Limited, which is undertaking the project, told the Ghana News Agency the project is commencing in May this year and is expected to be completed in four months time.

According to Mr. Benle, the new court had about 200 sitting capacity and would contain a hall, male and female cells, a bank and offices for bailiffs, registrar, the magistrate, lawyers, prosecutor as well as a general office.

Other facilities in the court included male and female wash rooms, court records and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) offices.

The new structure became necessary following the dilapidated nature of the existing old court premises, which had become a death trap.

Sometime in 2011, the Chief Justice, Madam Theodora Georgia Wood, ordered the closure of the old court house following auditors’ report that the building had become a death trap.
