NPP cannot win Supreme Court case – Kofi Adams

Deputy Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the New Patriotic Party can only win the ongoing presidential election petition if it can redirect the flow of the Volta Lake.

According to Mr Kofi Adams, the supposed evidence produced in court by the petitioners is not enough to overturn the verdict of the Electoral Commission, which named John Mahama winner of the December polls.

The ongoing president election petition is heating up as both petitioners and respondents battle in court to defend their side of the case.

In the mean time, the man at the centre of this case, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, is still in the witness box, being cross-examined by lead counsel for the petitioners, Philip Addison.

As Chairman of the Electoral Commission and the returning officer of the 2012 presidential election, he is seen as an authority in the case.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Kofi Adams reiterated his conviction that the petitioners have no case in court.

He said the EC as a human institution is fallible, and hence cannot be blamed for petty errors that occurred during the 2012 polls.

“The Commission took its time to do what is expected of it. We are not running perfect elections,” he stressed.

Kofi Adams added that irrespective of what the EC Chairman says in court, the supposed irregularities must affect the final results before the court.

The NDC deputy scribe asserts that the NPP has a herculean task to surmount to become victorious. According to him, “it is easier to reverse the flow of the Volta Lake than [NPP] winning this case”.
