Mining companies order female workers to go naked – MP attests

It has now been confirmed that some mining companies in the country take advantage of vulnerable women to sexually exploit them.

Women who have resorted to work in mining pits to eke out a living for themselves and family are compelled to take off their clothes and descend naked into the pits, the Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central in the Western Region, has said.

Mr George Arthur blew the minds of his colleague legislators in Parliament on Wednesday that he has witnessed such instances before.

Joy News’ Elton John Brobbey said the MP, is therefore, asking the August House to take a critical look at the humiliating and dehumanizing incident gaining root in the area.

According to Mr George Arthur, the lucky ones amongst the women are made to enter the pit with only their panties on and sometimes with their brassieres on.

He said this mean attitude towards the women is compounded by alleged raping incidents in the mining communities. In fact, the MP claimed, the nudities of the women have served as a launch pad for some unscrupulous men to unleash their libido on the vulnerable women.
