Tourism Minister pays familiarization visit to GTA

Mrs Elizerbeth Ofosu Adjare, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, on Wednesday, paid a familiarization visit to the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and other allied agencies under the ministry.

The visit, which was her first visit to the Authority since assuming office, was to introduce herself to the Authority as the new Minister and to interact with workers.

Mrs Ofosu Adjare said it was important to maintain excellent performance for the development of the tourism sector and congratulated the Authority on a successful paragliding events over the years.

She urged the GTA to try to bring out new initiatives that would include top corporate individuals and institutions to come on board to support the event.

The Tourism Minister also urged the Authority not to encourage illegal tourism, saying the laws of tourism must be enforced, and all illegal tourism operation facilities must be trucked and closed down.

She urged workers to work harder and not to relent in their efforts in order for the Authority to generate enough money to take tourism to the next level.

Mr Sampson Donkoh, Acting Executive Director of the Authority, described the Minister’s visit as timely and promised to do their best to keep the Authority on its toes for effective tourism development.

The Minister later visited the Ghana Tourism Development Communication Limited, the Du Bois Centre and inspected the status of work on the multipurpose state-of-the-art Accra Visitor Centre.
