GES aids fire disaster victims

The Ashanti Regional Office of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has donated a number of items in support of school children at Asaasebonso, a farming community in the Sekyere Central District.

The items included 1,940 exercise books, 80 pieces of school uniforms, large quantities of pencils, a bale of used clothing, three bags of rice and two gallons of cooking oil.

Mr Kofi Sarfo Kantanka, the Regional Education Director, said it was their contribution towards bringing some comfort to the victims.

He praised the teachers there for the efficient response to the emergency that prevented any of the 193 pupils from getting hurt during the fire that razed the entire village to the ground on January 28.

He appealed to the people to take the necessary measures to prevent the future recurrence of such disasters.

Mr Ebenezer Akuoko Frimpong, the District Chief Executive, thanked the GES and FM Radio Stations in the region, for mobilizing relief items for the victims.

The Chief, Nana Yaw Asumadu Sarpong, appealed to the district assembly to assist them with lumber to rebuild their burnt houses.
