Govt considers defreezing salaries of GYEEDA beneficiaries

Government says it is working with service providers to pay beneficiaries of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency.

Beneficiaries of GYEEDA have not been paid for about five months following the freezing of all payments into the programme.

A committee was set up following Joy FM’s exposé on corruption and financial malfeasance in the programme.

However, the Minister of Youth and Sport, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah says whilst the ministry awaits the committee’s report, the plight of beneficiaries of the programme should not be over looked.

Mr Afriyie Ankrah also appealed to media commentators on the subject to tone down on negative comments on the subject.

“It is the service providers who pay the beneficiaries, and so, two things: one, we await the recommendations of the committee on what to do, but in the mean time we are also looking at another alternative whereby we can engage the service providers and then we pay the beneficiaries. For people to sit down three, four, five months without pay, is a challenge. ”
