Teachers apologise for beating student

The two teachers who severely beat a final year student at the Akuse Methodist Senior High school are said to have apologised to the girl and her family.

Sources close to the family tell Joy News the teachers rendered the apology at a meeting held last Friday involving the girl’s family, the Head Teacher of the school, Police, and some District Education Officers.

The final year student was hospitalised after she was severely caned by her teachers, leaving her with bruises all over the body. School authorities said she went out without permission.

Paul Krampah, Head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Education, said the Minister of Education, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, has directed the regional director of education to investigate the matter and submit a report.

According to him, the report will inform decision on the matter by the Ghana Education Service.

He said the Service is not happy about the incident and hinted that the Headmaster and the teachers could be demoted after a report on the incident has been studied.
