Barclays Donate to Korle-Bu Children’s Ward

Barclays Bank Ghana has presented a cheque for ?33,928,408 to the children’s ward of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital towards on-going rehabilitation works at the ward.

The presentation was in response to an appeal from Child Helpline Foundation which in conjunction with CUSO, a Canadian Human Rights Agency, is helping to raise funds for the renovation works and provision of facilities necessary for the delivery of quality care to the sick children on the children’s surgical ward.

The rehabilitation involves replacement of existing vertical aluminium sliding windows with louvre carriers, aluminium framed mosquito/insect screens for windows, supply and installation of ceiling fans and refurbishment and spraying of cots.

Child Helpline Foundation is a non-profit organisation committed to the welfare of children. It has health and education as its focus.

Its other objectives are to encourage the principles of social responsibility and provide a credit medium for corporate bodies to reach out to the communities in which they work.

Mrs. Tina Ayisi, Head of Barclays Service Delivery who led the Bank’s four-man team presented the cheque to Dr. Afua Hesse, Head of the Paediatrics and Surgery Unit of the Hospital.

Mrs. Ayisi said Barclays as a people’s Bank has a social commitment of supporting such projects. “We’ll not frown at such requests, granting the limited funds at our disposal.”

Dr. Afua Hesse who led the delegation to inspect the deplorable state of some of the equipment at the unit, thanked Barclays for their response.

“Children,” she said, “mean so much to us. We are therefore grateful for the donation and hope others would emulate such gesture.”

With Dr. Hesse were Dr. William Apeadu-Mensah, Paediatric Surgeon, Mrs. Christiana Nunoo, Matron of the Children’s Ward and Mrs. Zena Ampofo-Tenkorang of the Child Helpline Foundation.
