Building under construction in Takoradi collapse

A two-storey facility which was under construction at the buffer zone in Takoradi in the Western region has collapsed.

Fortunately, all the workers who were working at the time of the collapse escaped unhurt.

The building collapsed around midday Tuesday and according to the workers, they were in the process of removing scaffolding under the concrete roof of the first floor when it collapsed.

The location of the building had come under criticism after members of the Amanful community opposed the sale of the land for private development.

The residents had argued that selling the land to private developers was going to prevent future development and expansion of public infrastructure in the metropolis.

But the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly said the move was to ensure that newer and modern buildings were constructed in the area as part of the beatification process of the metropolis.
