A four-man Parliamentary delegation led by the Majority Leader, Papa Owusu Ankomah have left Accra for Kampala, Uganda to attend the 33rd Conference of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Africa Region, slated from August 2 -10.
The conference is under the theme: “Good Governance and Development”. Ghana is expected to present a paper on: “Good Governance as a Necessary Pre-condition for Development”. The conference which is an annual affair would discuss topics, including, “World Trade Organisation – Challenges Facing Africa”, “HIV/AIDS-What is the role of a Parliamentarian in combating it”; “How Parliament in the African Region can respond to the growing threat of terrorism ” and “The Role of Regional Parliamentary Groups in Strengthening Regional and Sub-Regional Unity”.
CPA, Africa Region, aims among other things at promoting the sharing of knowledge and education on constitutional, legislative, economics and cultural systems of the Commonwealth countries in Africa since countries have close historical and parliamentary commonalities. Other members of the delegation were Mr Freddie Blay, first Deputy Speaker, Naa Afieye Ashong and Dr Benjamin Kunbuor all MPs.
