Agona West Assembly official ordered to refund GH¢2,000

Mr Leonard Mensah, Chief Personnel Officer of the Agona West Municipal Assembly, has been ordered to refund GH¢2,000 he has allegedly misappropriated.

The money was given to him as registration fees for 43 motor bikes belonging to members of the Municipal Assembly with the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) since March 2012.

Mr Samuel Oppong, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Assembly at the ordinary sitting of the Assembly at Agona Swedru, instructed Mr Mensah to pay the money to the Presiding Member (PM).

The instruction came after three Assembly Members had told Mr Oppong that their Motor bikes have not been registered.

Mr Mensah upon request by the Assembly members rendered un-qualified apology for any inconvenience caused to them.

The Assembly members expressed concern that the Municipal Finance Officer (MFO) issued the cheque for the registrations in the name of Mr Mensah instead of the Agency registering the motor bikes.

The Assembly under the Local Government ACT 462, through consensus, had re-appointed the Presiding Member, Mr Alhassan Haruna.
